This year's Australia Day get together for the club was a light hearted observation run from Mile End, up through the hills heading north as far as Williamstown and then back to the lovely beer gardens of the Bridgwater Inn.
16 Corvettes and a ring-in Mustang gathered at the Home Maker Centre, Mile End. Everyone was in good spirits and eager to see who had the highest IQ in the club. This I thought would be interesting. Kathy McPhee also insisted on it being a high speed race to the pub. Who would have thought!
Ruth & I sent everyone on their way and then went home for a cuppa. Who says organising a run is difficult.
The route took everyone up Glen Osmond Rd and past a local sex shop. Here one question was "who in the club would you most likely see shopping there". Clearly, most people in our club think Mr Schrapel has issues, closely followed by Mr McBride. Yep, I can see that. Anyway, it was then up the freeway, off at Crafers, and a scenic drive through to Swamp People country (Lenswood) on onto Cudlee Creek for coffee. It was good to support this business as they would have had their fair share of stress being surrounded by the recent fires.
From here, it was onto Williamstown answering our questions as they went and then heading south again back to the Bridgewater Inn. By then Ruth was waiting, greeting and collecting the questionnaires. When I showed up after taking some photos, I was greeted like a rock star by Karen & Catherine - don't know what that was all about but I certainly felt "hot"!! (You had to be there)
We sat down to a great lunch put on by the hotel and even though it could have been a couple of degrees warmer, we all enjoyed ourselves.
Kathy & Larry took out first prize with a score of 38 out of 41 (obviously the smartest in the club). Graham and Debbie are the second smartest in the club as they were next with 36. Who would have thought that hey? Rudi & Kay who are very consistent with these runs once again bombed out and came … umm … 16th. Peter McBride took out the biggest deviate prize (a box of Australiana tissues) as Mr Schrapel wasn't there to collect that one. Catherine and Jim took out the dumbest answer. Sir Lewis Cohen Drive was not named after Colonel Sanders. Greg & Christie got the "Finger" with an uncalled for, but winning insult to us. Breck & Helen only insulted themselves with a reference to being swamp people so we thought they were deserving of a packet of lamingtons. Then to top it off, Karen Nitschke won the hotel's free raffle prize of a swimming pool full of beer. Party at your place Dave!
It was great to see Andy and Mel down from Laura, and great to see new members Steve & Wendy and Steve & Sam join us. Hope you guys enjoyed yourselves and we'll see you again soon.
Thanks to everyone who came along and made it another great club day.
